WEB SITE RULES 2009

Two divisions based on newspaper circulation: A (18,000 and over) and BC (17,999 and under).

 

The following information must be provided: name of newspaper, online editor and phone number in case a judge needs assistance, Web address (URL), and how often the site updated and when.  For your Web site to be considered as a contest entry, this information must be returned to: AP/ONE Contest, 525 Central Park Drive #202, Oklahoma City, OK 73105 no later than 4:00 p.m. Jan. 19, 2010.

 

Entry forms will be collected and sent to judges who will look at each Web site at their discretion.  First, second and third place (honorable mention where merited) winners will be chosen.  Winners will be announced at the annual AP/ONE Awards Banquet.

 

GUIDELINES:

ORGANIZATION: Does the Web site follow a logical on-line sequence, beginning with a front page that leads readers elsewhere? Is there a table of contents? Is navigation of the site simple and easily understood?

 

DESIGN:  Is the site visually attractive? Is there photography and graphics or text-only?

 

INTERACTIVITY: Does the on-line product provide readers with an opportunity to contact the newspaper’s staff? For example, can readers respond to daily polls, complain to columnists, submit letters to the editor, and suggest story ideas?

 

INNOVATIONS:  Is the on-line newspaper designed to present the local news of the day? Does it provide state and national news of the day? Does it offer subscriber’s links to more information on a topic, more photos? Does the site include methods of communication that aren’t traditionally used in newspapers such as audio, video or chat boards? Does it provide information that a traditional newspaper can’t afford to print in full? Does it give readers access to the paper’s archives?
