PHOTO CONTEST RULES 2011
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
To recognize the quality of work done by the AP member
newspaper staffs taking the Oklahoma report.
To encourage those staffs to contribute their work to the Oklahoma
AP photo report.
ELIGIBILITY:
The contest is open to entries from professional journalists employed at AP
member newspapers subscribing to the Oklahoma report.
ENTRY FEES:
$7 per entry. Fees must be paid
by Feb. 3, 2012. Entry fee checks must be sent to The Associated Press,
ATTN: Pam Collins, 4851 LBJ Freeway, Suite 300, Dallas, TX, 75244. Trophies,
plaques and certificates will be purchased from entry fees contributed by
newspapers participating in the competition.
DEADLINE:
Entries should be
submitted online at www.betterbnc.com
by 5 p.m. CST February 3, 2012. Detailed instructions are included. Mail
entries also will be accepted and must be received by 4 p.m. CST January 31,
2012.

AWARDS:
First-, second- and third-place prizes will be awarded in each category.
First-place plaques will be presented to the winner in each category in each
of the three divisions.
Certificates will go to the individuals in first, second and third place.
No entries will be returned.
SWEEPSTAKES AWARDS:
One sweepstakes prize will be awarded in each division A, B and C.
A trophy will be presented to the newspaper whose entry is judged the
best in each of the three divisions.
The winning photographer will also receive $50 if that picture or
picture story was used on the AP photo network.
RULES CHANGES:
Changes to these contest rules will be considered each year by a standing
committee of AP/ONE Executive Committee.
PHOTO ENTRIES:
Entries must have either been published in the entering
newspaper or posted on its Web site between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2011.
Photo entries may have been published/posted in both
newspaper/newspaper Web site but may be entered as only one:
a published photo or a Web site photo.
Photographers will compete in respective newspaper
divisions A, B and C based on circulation for prizes in six categories:
(five published photo categories and one Web site category):
1)
spot news,
2)
sports,
3)
general news,
4)
feature,
5)
photo package,
6)
Web site photo
Mail-in Photo entries may be: 1) tear sheet, 2) photo print
or 3) computer print.
Each
Web site photo entry, whether submitted online or by mail, must include
a screen shot.
All mail-in photo entries must be overall size 8 ½ “x 11”.
Larger entries may be folded, and smaller entries may be attached to
an 8 ½” by 11” item.
LABELING: For
mailed entries, a legible entry form must be attached to the back of each 8
½” by 11” entry.
Entry label must contain the division, category, name of
photographer, name of the newspaper, title of entry, date published/posted
and caption. Photos without
captions will not be considered.
Limit: two (2)
entries per photographer, per category, in one division.
Photos in spot news, sports, general news and feature photo
categories will be one single photo.
Photo package and Web site photo entries may be multiple
photos by more than one photographer, judged as one entry. A photo in a
photo package may be entered in a single other category but photos may only
be entered as one medium:
published or Web site.
